Posted Date: 08/11/26 (03:16 PM)
The LCS Board of Education met today, August 11th, for the final board meeting before the school year kicks off. Here are a few of the highlights from today's meeting:
- The board approved the personnel agenda, meaning we are ready for the new school year. We have zero vacancies going into the new year.
- Our CFO, Ryan Miller, presented the financial report from June 2026. We are right where we should be for this time of year.
- Steve Moore with Potter, Bryant, Moore presented their findings from their latest audit of Leeds City Schools, which was Fiscal Year 2025. Moore said there were zero modifications to be made to our budget. He even said that LCS was named a "low risk auditee". This comes when a city school district has had zero findings for three years in a row. Even better than that? Moore said Leeds has NEVER received a poor audit, since LCS began in the early 2000's. His exact words were "reports like this don't just come along, this is because of the hard work of your finance team". Great job to our LCS Finance Team!
- The cafeteria roof is on at Leeds Primary School, which means we are starting the school year tomorrow BUSINESS AS USUAL! Everyone is so thrilled to be in their own spaces again.
- The final inspection for the Homer Smiles Field House is this week - if we pass, this means we will receive a certificate of occupancy for the facility.
- Crews on site for the Homer Smiles Stadium Project located a new sink hole near the entrance to Leeds Middle School. We are working on a plan to repair the hole ASAP. In the meantime, carline at LMS will be a little bit different than usual.
- The Annual Budget Hearing is set for Tuesday, August 25th at 10:00 am.
