Mrs. Amy Powers
My name is Amy Powers and I teach small group Special Education here at Leeds High School. I am an alumni of LHS from the class of 1994 and am very excited to be able to teach in the school system and the town that I have called home for most of my life. I have always felt that my calling has been to work with students that need that extra bit of encouragement and assistance to help them reach their goals in school and in life. It warms my heart every day to see the students that I work with accomplish tasks that will help them in the future.
Here is a little about who I am and what I do when not at school:
I have been married to my husband, Jeff, for almost 27 years. We have two daughters, Haley who is 23 (2018 graduate of Leeds High School and Miss Leeder 2018), a graduate of Mississippi State University with a degree in Agronomy (Hail State!) and who works for the Walt Disney Company in Orlando, and Hayden Claire who is 18, an NBTA Alabama State Twirling Champion, a 2022 graduate of LHS and a current Sophomore and Feature Twirler at Northeast Mississippi Community College where she is majoring in Psychology with a focus on counseling adolescents and teens with behavior needs. When we are not attending twirling competitions or games to watch Hayden Claire twirl knives or fire batons, in Orlando visiting Haley, or cheering Hayden Claire on in the pageant world, we love to spend our time between Disney World and Universal. We have been fortunate enough that our girls have gotten to grow up going to Disney and experiencing all the magic and wonder that it entails. It is truly our "happy place" when school is not in session.
I look forward to a magical school year with your students!
