  • 2021-22 Back to School Guidance

Leeds City Schools is providing the following guidance to all stakeholders of the school system:

    1. All students not enrolled in the Leeds Virtual Academy are expected to return to in person learning on August 11, 2021.
    2. Vaccinations are encouraged for all persons ages 12 and over. Symptomatic persons will be sent home for 10 days or as otherwise directed by their physician.
    3. Social distancing of a minimum of 3', where possible, will be beneficial in mitigating the spread of Covid.
    4. Masking will be required until the end of school October 1.  We will evaluate our data on or before October 1 in order to make a determination on masking going forward. Along with requiring masks, we started this week by sending home close contacts of known Covid cases to isolate for 10 days. The isolation will not include students that have been vaccinated. Close contacts are defined as:
      1. Students who are less than 3 feet for more than 15 minutes are masked or unmasked will be considered close contact.
      2. Students that are 3 feet or greater and are properly masked will not be considered close contact.
    5. Masks are required to be worn on all school busses, per federal mandate.
    6. The school nurse will report all suspected or diagnosed cases of Covid to the local Health Department.
    7. School officials will notify close contacts of Covid positive cases as soon as possible.
    8. Frequent handwashing and respiratory etiquette should be observed by all persons
    9. Anyone showing signs of Covid should remain home and see his/her healthcare provider as soon as possible for testing and care.
    10. There are no restrictions on attendance at extracurricular events presently.

LCS will continuously monitor Jefferson County and school system Covid numbers on a daily basis. These guidelines are subject to change.

Please recognize that Covid remains a threat outside of school hours; therefore vaccinations, face coverings, social distancing, and good hygiene are the best-known tools to defeat the virus.

  • Superintendent's Message

    Dear Parents and Students:

On behalf of the City of Leeds Board of Education, I would like to welcome you to the 2021-2022 school year. We are honored that you have elected to send your child to our school system, and we take our responsibility to you seriously. Our goal is to educate the whole child so that he/she is ready to meet the challenges of the ever-changing global society and economy in which we live.

I believe that part of the success of the Leeds School System is based in our commitment to maintaining positive partnerships with all stakeholders: students, parents, teachers, community members, and businesses. We will continue to improve not only standardized scores but to also grow academic offerings in the area of career and technical education in the middle and high school grades. We are excited to provide more for our students than we ever have in the past.

Our school district was awarded District Accreditation in June 2015 by Advanced Ed, and international accrediting agency of 31,000 schools. This is a designation we should all be proud to claim.

Please know that we welcome your involvement in our schools, and we hope to make the 2021-2022 school year one of the best for your child. If I may ever be of service to you, please do not hesitate to contact my office.

    Roll Greenwave!

    John J. Moore

    Superintendent of Education
